In an electrifying display of Sepak Takraw prowess, the College of Technology and Engineering (COTE) Maroons emerged victorious over the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Tigers, clinching the championship title at the PIT Laboratory High School Court on August 31.
Ralph Lloyd Dugaduga’s powerful backspike stole the show, amassing 10 crucial points for the Maroons, including four attacks, two blocks, and a spectacular cartwheel. The dynamic duo of Andrew Abayata and Dexter Inghog added 11 more points, securing the lead in the first set.
Notably, three out of seven COTE Maroons players had prior championship experience, contributing to their composure on the court.
What set the COTE Maroons apart was the addition of two players with Palarong Pambansa experience from their previous schools, giving them a strategic advantage.
Dexter Inghog, a key player for the Maroons, credited their victory to exceptional teamwork and cooperation. “Our opponent was formidable, but it was our collective effort and teamwork that secured the first set,” he emphasized.
In the second set, CAS Tigers briefly led by five points in the first half, but COTE’s tenacious defense, powerful blocks, and precise returns thwarted every attempt.
As the match progressed, the COTE Maroons elevated their defense, clinching the set with a commanding 20-10 lead. Both teams showcased impressive services, spikes, and throws, but COTE maintained their lead, ending the match with a stunning cartwheel by Andria, securing a final score of 21-10.
Team captain Ralph Lloyd Dugaduga expressed his satisfaction with the challenging game and praised his teammates’ dedication and teamwork. He highlighted their ambition to represent the team at SCUAA 2023, their first-ever participation in the event.
“In the previous SCUAA, PIT had no representative, so we’re working hard to compete. Intensive training and personal discipline are crucial to achieving our goal,” he concluded.
Dugaduga was honored as the best spiker, with Inghog receiving recognition as the best setter and Abayata distinguished as the best tekung player, cementing their team’s exceptional achievements.
